Phyllis M. Thompson, age 85, a resident of Wheaton since 1952, died Sunday, August 7, 2011, at Emeritus Senior Living in Rockford, Illinois. She was born January 4, 1926 in Chicago to Felix and Emma Gronke.
Phyllis married Howard Thompson in August of 1948. They moved to Wheaton in 1952 where he worked as a vice-president of Wheaton National Bank.
Phyllis was an active volunteer with Hines Veterans Hospital for over 50 years and for many years volunteered at Central DuPage Hospital. She was a past president of the VFW Women's Auxiliary in Wheaton. She was a founding member of the St. John Lutheran Church in Wheaton.
She is survived by her son, Tom (Lynda) Thompson of St. Charles, and one grandson, Adam Thompson.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Howard Thompson, her parents, and two sisters.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 11 at 11:30 A.M. at St. John Lutheran Church, 125 E. Seminary, Wheaton, IL 60187. Friends may visit with the family from 10:30 to 11:30 A.M. Interment will follow at Wheaton Cemetery.
