Phyllis R. Hartman, age 92 , a resident of Wheaton for 53 years and recently of Windsor Park Manor in Carol Stream, died Sunday, June 18, at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield. She was born on May 18, 1914 in Elgin, IL.
She was a 1936 graduate of North Central College, where she has been an active member of the Alumni Association. While in college she met Paul T. Hartman who she married on June 10, 1939. Following graduation she taught in Iron Mountain, MI and Monmouth, IL. She retired from teaching after 20 years at O'Neill Jr. High School in Downers Grove.
Phyllis was an active member of Gary Memorial United Methodist Church for 53 years, where she served with PADS, Bethleham Market Place and other ministries.
She is survived by one daughter, Dr. Barbara Hartman (Jim Melville) of Springfield, IL; two sons, Dr. Donald (Jean) Hartman of Petersburg, IL, and Dr. Bruce (Martha) Hartman of Maplewood, NJ; four grandchildren, Matthew (Leslie) Hartman of Boston, MA, Zachary Hartman of Wheaton, Elizabeth Hartman of Petersburg, Margaret Hartman of Maplewood, NJ; and one great-grandson, Callan Hartman of Boston.
Preceding her in death were her husband of 58 years, Dr. Paul T. Hartman and three sisters, Martha Klatt, Helen Ashdown, and Leanora Hannah.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 21, at 2:00 p.m. at the Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St. in Wheaton with a visitation prior to the service from 1 until 2 p.m. Interment will be privately held at Wheaton Cemetery.
