Peter J. Parenti, Sr., age 73, a resident of Winfield for 19 years, died Wednesday, June 6, at Central DuPage Hospital. He was born on November 10, 1933, in Oak Park to Peter J. and Lillian Parenti.
Pete moved to Winfield from Glen Ellyn in 1988 when he fell in love with a house on a 1-1/2 acre lot with a large pond- perfect for his passion of gardening and the outdoor life. Because of his handyman skills, he built his own boat/raft which he sailed on the pond listening and singing (so the neighbors said) to Frank Sinatra and other music of that era. He owned his own shipping labels and supplies business, Par Craft Marking Products, from the time he started it in 1963 until he retired in 1993. It was truly a family run operation employing his son Peter, son-in-law John, and daughter Sandy. Pete was a likable people person without a doubt. He befriended the shop owners, bank tellers, restaurant owners, doctors,or general employees anywhere he went, making sure a sufficient amount of spaghetti and meatballs was delivered to them as a token of friendship. He was also known as a jokster, talking and kidding with people he didn't even know when he went on outings, making my mom laugh at his craziness and love of life.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Agnes, one son, Peter (Diane) Parenti Jr. of Berwyn, one daughter, Sandra (John) Fugate of Winfield, step-children, Joyce Riley and Jeff Riley, both of California, seven grandchildren, Yvette, Brandy, Jessica, Matthew, Bradley, Ashley, and Peter Richard, one great-granddaughter, Michaela.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one infant son, Peter, and four brothers, Donald, Richard, Eugene, and John.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 10, from 3 to 7 P.M. at the Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., in Wheaton. A funeral Mass will be held on Monday, June 11 at 11:00 A.M. at St. John the Baptist Church in Winfield. Prayers will be held at the funeral home at 10:30 A.M. Interment will be held privately at Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
