Pearl M. Rathbun, age 89, passed away on Sunday, June 5, 2022. She was born August 20, 1932 in Glen Ellyn, IL to Louis & Amy (nee Gathman) Rathbun.

One of six children, Pearl was born on the Rathbun Dairy farm into a Christian home and at age seven, recognizing her sin and need for a Savior, Pearl trusted in Jesus Christ for her eternal salvation. Soon afterwards she dedicated her life to full-time Christian service. Along with her family, she joined Glen Ellyn Bible Church, which later sent her out as a missionary. Pearl graduated Glenbard Township High School in 1950 and Bryan University in 1956. A gifted musician, Pearl was a pianist and Sunday school teacher in a small mountain church in Tennessee and traveled with a gospel quartet as accompanist for seven months. Concerned about those globally who had never heard the gospel of salvation through Jesus Christ, she was obedient to God's call to go to South Korea as a missionary with The Evangelical Alliance Mission (TEAM) in 1958. During her 39 years of ministry there, Pearl ministered at TEAM's HLKX radio station, now operated by Far East Broadcasting Company – Korea, a ministry which broadcasts in Korean, Chinese, Mongolian, English, and Russian. As Director of Music and later Director of English Programming, she frequently played piano and organ and used her radio voice on the air. She accompanied many choirs and discipled Korean young people through both Korean and English Bible studies and served in a ministry called J.O.Y. Club (which later became J.O.Y. Mission.). Eager to build up Christian youth in worship music, she published a Youth Folk Hymnal. Despite not pursuing worldly accolades, Pearl was named in the 1967 edition of Outstanding Young Women of America. Retiring in Carol Stream, IL, she was an active volunteer locally for Outreach Community Ministries, Walk-in Ministries, and played piano at Beacon Hill Senior Living Community. Although Pearl never married or had children of her own, her nieces and nephews and their children treasure her gracious and generous lifestyle, her witty sense of humor, and above all her godly example of a faithful follower of Christ. Indeed, her spiritual legacy resonates around the globe.

She is survived by her sisters Judith Somerville & Virginia O'Brien; her sister-in-law Joyce Rathbun & brother-in-law Eugene Taylor; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great nieces, great-great nephews & many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings Raymond Rathbun, Lois Taylor & John Rathbun; and sister-in-law Margaret Rathbun & brother-in-law Lloyd Somerville.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 14, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. at Glen Ellyn Bible Church, 501 Hillside Ave., Glen Ellyn, IL 60137 where a memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. with a luncheon following. Pearl M. Rathbun선교사는 2022년 6월 5일, 89세에 하나님 품에 안겼다. 그녀는 1932년 8월 20일 Louis와 Amy Rathbun사이에서 미국 일리노이주 Glen Ellyn에서 태어났다.

축산 농가, 6남매 기독교 가정에서 태어난 레스번 선교사는 일곱살이 되던 해, 자신의 죄를 깨닫고 구세주가 필요하다는 점을 인식하고 자신의 구원을 위해 예수 그리스도를 처음 믿었다. 그 후, Rathbun선교사는 곧 자신의 삶을 주님께 드리고 평생 기독교 사역을 하며 살았다. 그녀는 가족과 함께, Glen Ellyn Bible Church에 출석했고, 이 교회는 후일 그녀를 선교사로 파송했다.

Club (후일 J.O.Y. Mission으로 명칭 변경) 에서도 헌신했다. 예배 음악을 위한 기독교 청소년 양성에 힘을 쏟으며, 레스번 선교사는 청소년 찬송가집을 발간했다. 세계적인 명성을 추구하지 않았음에도, 레스번 선교사는 1967년 '자랑스런 미국의 젊은 여성'으로 선정되었다.

일리노이주 Carol Stream에서 은퇴 후, 레스번 선교사는 현지 Outreach Community Ministries, Walk-in Ministries, 그리고 Beacon Hill Senior Living Community 피아노 반주를 하는 등 자원봉사자로도 활발하게 활동했다.

장례식(6월에 이미 화장했음)은 일리노이주 Oakbrook Terrace에 위치한 Chapel Hill Gardens에서 가족들만 참가한 가운데 거행될 예정입니다.
