Paul John Alfred Nelson, 91, a resident of Bloomingdale, IL, died Saturday, November 17, at Lexington Nursing Home after a brief illness. He was born on May 3, 1916 in Chicago to August and Freida Nelson.
Mr. Nelson worked for 36 years for Meyercord Decal and then for MAP (Medical Assistance Programs) and retired at the age of 80. During W.W.II he served in the US Army for 4 1/2 years. He was a member of College Church in Wheaton and Medinah Baptist Church. He worked for many years in Chicago Missions and spent several years after retirement as a volunteer in building churches. He was also a leader in AWANA.
He is survived by his children, Paul H. (Lynda) Nelson, James E. Nelson, and Carol J. (Douglas) Mauro, two granddaughters, Dawn (Dr. David) Huff, and Michelle Nelson, and one great-granddaughter, Stella Huff. He is also survived by a niece Ruth (Michael) Vorel and nephews, Rev. C. Richard (Roberta) Swanson, Ralph (Kathleen) Nelson, Ross (Leann) Nelson and Donald Nelson.
Preceding him in death were his wife of 36 years Sara J. Nelson, nee Dammarell, his parents, brothers, Joseph and Donald Nelson and a sister, Dorothy Swanson.
A funeral service will held on Tuesday, November 20 at 7:00 p.m. at College Church in Wheaton, 332 E. Seminary Ave. in Wheaton. Friends may visit with the family from 4 until 7 p.m. at the church.
Interment will be held privately at Forest Home Cemetery in Forest Park.
