Paul M. Markese, age 92, a resident of Melrose Park, IL, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 8, 2026. He was born December 6, 1933 to Michael & Mary Markese.

A devoted husband, father, grandfather, veteran, and man of faith, Paul leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and unwavering devotion to his family. Paul was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Mary; his brothers Ralph Markese (Helen), Edward Markese (Mary); and his sister Madeline Rozzi.

Paul was born and raised in Kenosha, WI. He proudly served as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force during the Korean War with the 28th Reconnaissance Bombardment Wing, working in intelligence operations. His service to his country was recognized with the National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, and the Korean Service Medal. His commitment to service continued throughout his life—not only to his country, but to his family, his church, and his community.

Paul was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Mary Markese. For more than ten years, he lovingly cared for Mary as she lived with Alzheimer’s disease. His dedication to her was a profound expression of his love and commitment, and he remained by her side through the difficult years, caring for her with patience, dignity, and compassion.

His greatest joy was his family. He was a loving father to Cari (Tom) and Paul (Beth), and a proud grandfather to his beautiful granddaughters Hannah, Grace, and Mary. He treasured the time he spent with his family and leaves them with memories that will remain in their hearts for generations.

Paul was also a man of deep faith. He was devoted to his church and faithfully served as its treasurer and a deacon, giving his time and talents in service to others. His faith was reflected not only in his church involvement, but in the way he lived his life—with humility, responsibility, generosity, and love.

Paul will be remembered for his quiet strength, his devotion to those he loved, his service to his country, and his enduring faith. He leaves behind a beautiful example of what it means to love faithfully, serve selflessly, and remain devoted through life’s most difficult seasons.

He will be deeply missed by his children, granddaughters, nieces and nephews, extended family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A visitation will be held at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton, IL 60187, on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Mt. Emblem Cemetery in Elmhurst, Illinois.
