Rev. Paul Li Horng, age 64, loving husband, father, and son of God went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, May 12, 2013.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Lily (Yuo); his children, Eric and Jeanette; his brother Evans (Monica) and sister Nancy (Yih-Fang) Huang. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wei-Huai and Yi-Nan (Hsu) Horng.
Paul was born on November 9, 1948 in Keelung, Taiwan. Raised in Taipei, Paul graduated from Tunghai University in 1971 and came to the United States in 1974 to attend graduate school at the University of Massachusetts. It was there, in the summer of 1975, that he met his future bride Lily at a weekly Bible study. Shortly after receiving his master's degree, they were married in a simple ceremony attended by family and friends and for the next 20 years, Paul worked in the polymer industry in technical, marketing, and sales management roles, earning his MBA during that time.
However, it wasn't until 1998 when Paul finally fulfilled his true calling to pursue the Lord's work full time. He attended seminary at Wheaton College, received his degree in evangelism in 2001, and for the next five years, served on the pastoral staff of the Chicago Northwest Suburban Chinese Christian Church. During this time, he cofounded Chicago Chinese Christian Missions (CCCM) and was ordained to do the work of the gospel by the Midwest Baptist Conference on June 12, 2005.
In 2007, Paul was appointed the General Secretary of CCCM directing his focus to unite and mobilize Chicago Christians for local and global missions. Even as recently as the past year, Paul has established a new cross-cultural missions organization, Aimu Today, which will carry on posthumously.
Throughout his life, Paul has spent his time glorifying the Lord as a full-time servant touching lives in the United States, China, and other countries across the globe. His main focus, with his wife, was to love their children and serve their God. To those who met him, he was known for his sense of humor, compassion for others, constant humility, large personality and his steadfast passion and love for Christ.
A visitation will be held on Friday, May 17, 2013 from 4-8 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., in Wheaton, IL. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Chicago Northwest Suburban Chinese Christian Church, 2401 Kirchoff Rd, Rolling Meadows, IL 60008.
Paul's wish was to continue his mission work through establishing a scholarship fund for those called to cross-cultural missions. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to: Chicago Chinese Christian Missions, P.O. Box 335, Elk Grove Village, IL 60009 with the memo "Cross-Cultural Mission Fund."
