Oren D. Walker, age 69, a resident of Wheaton for 22 years, died May 20. He was born on December 7, 1937 to Thomas and Flossie Walker.
He graduated from Illinois Wesleyan College and earned a Masters Degree in Music from Northern Illinois University. From 1970 until 1994 he taught music at Hadley Jr. High School in Glen Ellyn, where his choir was chosen to appear in the production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat in Chicago with Donny Osmond. He was a former president of the Glen Ellyn Education Association. For many years he sang in the Chicago Symphony Chorus and also sang in the choir at the Gary Memorial United Methodist Church.
Oren is survived by his wife Kay; three children, Carol Ann (Clinton) Mausehund of Mattoon, IL, Mary Beth (Steve) Westergren of Cambodia, and Robert Mark Walker of Forest Park, IL; five grandchildren, Eric, Kirsten, Brent, Kreg and Corinne; and two sisters, Esther (Thomas) Eggley and Frances Pettit.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Norma Magnuson.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 29, from 5 until 8 p.m. at the Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St. in Wheaton. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 30 at 10 a.m. at Gary Memorial United Methodist Church, 224 N. Main St., in Wheaton. Interment will be held at Tower Heights Cemetery in West Frankfort, Illinois on Thursday at 1 p.m.
