Octaviano B. Cordoba, age 87, a resident of Glendale Heights, IL, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 18, 2017, at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, IL. He was born January 30, 1930 in Timbío-Popayán, Cauca, Colombia.
From a young age, Octaviano enjoyed his music. He was a self taught musician and played the tiple, the guitar and the cuatro. He played professionally for a local band in Chicago. As a young man he worked in the transportation industry. He later worked at General Motors for 25 years, retiring in 1993. He received an award for never missing a single day of work. He made a decision to trust Christ as his Savior over 35 years ago. He was a loving father and a friend to all. As soon as he talked to you, you had a new friend.
He is survived by his nine children, David (Marina) Cordoba of Skokie, IL, Clara (Jose) Flores of West Dundee, IL, William (Jacqueline) Cordoba of Cali, Colombia, Daniel Cordoba of Glendale Heights, IL, Samuel (Callie) Cordoba of Bartlett, IL, Pablo Cordoba of Cali, Colombia, Octavio (Socorro) Cordoba of Hanover Park, IL, Luis (Belkis) Cordoba of Miami, FL, and Nubia Cordoba of Louisville, KY; 13 grandchildren, Lilliana and David, Elizabeth, Venesa and Andrew, Alejandro, Samantha, Diego and Angela, Jorge and Vicky, Luis Jr., and Angela; 10 great-grandchildren, Stephanie, Jasmine, Jonathan, Manuelito, Sophia, Lucas, Alicia, Michael, Alexander and Richie; his brother, Edgar (Irma) Cordoba; and his two nephews, Alberto and Carlos Cordoba.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Alicia; and his grandson, William Jr.
A visitation will be held on Friday, April 21, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. until the start of a funeral service to be held at 7:00 p.m. at
Wheaton Bible Church
/Iglesia del Pueblo, 27W500 North Ave., in West Chicago, IL. Interment will be held on Saturday, April 22, at Assumption Cemetery. The family and friends are gathering just inside the gate at 10:00 a.m.
