Obituary

Norman Kolschefski, age 72, a resident of Wheaton, IL and formerly of Merrillville, IN and Minot, ND, died Saturday, October 3, 2009 surrounded by his family after a long battle with cancer. He was born in McClusky, ND on February 13, 1937 to Otto and Magdalene Kolschefski.

Norman grew up on a farm in Ruso, ND. He served in the National Guard for many years and was called into the Army during the Berlin and Cuban Crisis. On August 5, 1956 he married Erma Wasvick in Minot, ND. For many years he worked as a truck driver at Minot Sand and Gravel and later ran Robo Car Wash on North Broadway. He went on to work as a driver for Behms Propane, and later worked for the Minot Public School System. In 1991 they moved to Merrillville, IN where he worked for Ozinga/First Choice Logistics as a driver and later as a parts manger. In 2007 he retired and moved to Wheaton where he worked at Target.

Throughout his life he was very active in the churches he attended and served as treasurer, maintenance and usher, serving in any capacity needed. These churches include: West Minot Church of God, Total Life Church of God of Minot, ND, Total Life Assembly of God in Worth, IL, where he was a founding member and then Merrillville First Assembly of God (Living Hope Church). In Wheaton he attended Wheaton Bible Church. His life was centered around his faith in Christ and his family.

He is survived by his wife, Erma Kolschefski, two sons, Darcy (Holly) Kolschefski of Wheaton, IL and Darwin (Michelle) Kolschefski of LaHabra, CA, 5 grandchidren, Kira (Jonathan) Wheat, Kyle, Danielle, Alexis and Anthony Kolschefski, and a great-grandson, Jace Wheat.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and one grandson, Dayton Kolschefski.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 6 from 4:00 until the time of the funeral service at 7:30 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St. in Wheaton, IL. Interment will be held on Wednesday, October 7 at 10:00 a.m. at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL.
