Norman Upton Hall, age 78, a lifelong resident of Oak Park, IL, received his final promotion when he went to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 26, in his own home, on his own couch, in his own clothes, as he wanted. Stubborn to the end, he was determined to stay in his home of 47 years and was able to do so because of his wife Eva's tender care and devotion. He was born May 6, 1936 in Indianapolis, Indiana to the late Harry and Dorothy Hall.
He graduated in 1971 from Northwestern University. He worked as an accountant for Continental Casualty, Coleman Instruments, Brunswick Corporation, and Continental IL National Bank of Chicago. He was a hard worker and drove for Blue Cab nights to support his family, in between accounting jobs. He enjoyed bowling for a church league in the 60s' and 70s'. He was a man of vision and created the first digital clock, predicted CD's and laser surgery.
Not a reader, he was a daily Bible reader, his faith carried him through life. He always said, "The Lord will provide." Gen. 22:14
A longtime member of First Baptist Church of Oak Park, he served several terms as trustee and sang in the church choir for many years.
He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Eva, and her two adult children, Tim and Catherine, and their children, Andrew and Katy, and RJ and Bennett.
And The Texas Connection, his brother, Wayne (Margaret), to whom he passes the mantle of Hall Family patriarch. And he is survived by his nieces and nephew, and beloved cousins: Virginia (Bill) Brown, Donna (Phil) Mann, and their children and families. He was especially close to his cousins, Carl (the late Helen) Jensen, and their families, and Jeannene (Brian) Mosley and their family, all of Wisconsin.
He was preceded in death by his cousin Larry Hall and his aunt and uncle, Ralph and Dorothy Hall. He is survived by Larry's wife, Martie and their families, all of Illinois, and an extended family too numerous to name.
He was widowed after 36 years of marriage to Ruth Morton Hall. They had two daughters, Deborah Lynn Davis and Janice Marie (Gerald) Roe, whose six children and their 5 children and counting, are Mark (Sarah) Hall and their son Charles, Charters (Eva) Roe and their daughter Caitlyn, Heather Ruth (Greg) Woods and their children, Rose, Leo, and Alma; Ellasan, who was especially close to her grandfather and of whom he thought the world, Edward III, a work in progress, and Jerry, Jr.
A devoted family man, he was always about the kids no matter the noise level or the mess. But he never, ever changed a diaper!
