Norman Dale Boyer's Obituary
Norman Dale Boyer, age 92, resident of 510 Crest St., Wheaton Illinois died Wednesday, November 11, 2009 of a stroke. Born in West Frankfort, Illinois to Alva Rush Boyer and Lucy Estelle Smith February 18, 1917, most people throughout his lifetime knew him by his middle name of Dale. He grew up surrounded by a loving, very large extended family on the original Boyer farm property settled and deeded around 1810 east of town. He had fond memories of his grandfather Boyer and great uncle Scott Boyer who owned and operated a blacksmith shop on the east side of town. He was proud of having 100 first cousins from the Boyer and Smith families.
Dale married Helen Cloease Wilkerson, also of West Frankfort Illinois in the Humboldt Park Baptist Church in Chicago on October 23, 1937. They enjoyed 61 years of marriage before her death in July, 1999. Dale and Helen had two children, Janet Aileen and Gerald Lee. Jerry passed away in August 1958. April 11, 2000, Dale married Vilhelmina Skardziuvieve.
He leaves a wife, Wilma, a daughter, Janet Zabriskie of Cumming Georgia, four grandchildren: Laura Hirschi of Tokyo Japan, Linda Flower of Zionsville Indiana, Charles Hurmence III of Auburn Georgia, Aileen Bogdan of Grand Blanc Michigan and 15 great-grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter.
Dale and Helen lived in West Frankfort, Chicago, Northlake and Elmhurst before moving to Wheaton in April 1980. He was a 60-year Lifetime Master Mason of the A.F. & A.M. of the State of Illinois, West Frankfort Lodge, and a member of the American Legion for 14 years. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1936. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and retired as a Quality Control Supervisor and Inspector for Automatic Electric Inc. in Northlake, Illlinois. Dale and Helen were longtime, faithful members of the Second Baptist Church of West Frankfort and moved their church membership to the First Baptist Church of Elmhurst in the early 1970's.
A visitation will be held onTuesday, November 17 from 12:00 p.m. until the time of a funeral service at 1:00 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St. in Wheaton.
