Obituary

Norlynn D. Egbert, age 79, a resident of Wheaton since 1973, went to be with the Lord on Monday, June 20. She was born on March 14, 1937 in Chicago to Norman and Mabelle Doonan.

Norlynn grew up on the southside of Chicago and graduated from Calumet High School. She worked for Sears. At a church picnic at Starved Rock State Park, she met George Egbert and they were married on June 21, 1958. After a number of moves, they settled in Wheaton where they raised their five children and were actively involved in the schools, church and community.

She was well known for leading School District 200 PTA groups in the 1970's. She volunteered with the Wheaton League of Women Voters, Wheaton Community TV, DuPage Children's Museum and Outreach Community Ministries. She was an active member of Hope Presbyterian Church in Wheaton and First Presbyterian Church of Glen Ellyn. In 2002, the Wheaton Kiwanis Club honored her and George with the "Citizens of the Year" Award.

Norlynn was a feature writer, reporter and photographer for the Wheaton Leader/Glen Ellyn News and a columnist with the Daily Herald.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, George Egbert Jr., five children, George III (Barbara Barr) Egbert of Santa Barbara, CA, Dr. Joy Egbert of Moscow, ID, Glory (Bob) Novak of Tucson, AZ, Rose (Kevin) Gustavson of Franklin, TN, and Noel (Brian) Strom of North Aurora, and six grandchildren, Michael and Kelly Novak, Jamie and David Jessup, and Abigail and Grace Gustavson.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, July 17 at 3:00pm at the First Presbyterian Church of Glen Ellyn 550 N. Main Street, Glen Ellyn IL 60137.
