Nona M. Stier a resident of Chapin, South Carolina passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Friday, October 27, 2017, at her home at the age of 90. She was living with her caregiver, Deana Riordan, and her loving family. She was a long-time resident of Wheaton, Illinois.
Viewing will be Friday, November 3, 2017, at 12:00 p.m. followed by the funeral at 1:00 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St. in Wheaton, Illinois. Interment to follow at Wheaton Cemetery.
She was the daughter of Raymond M. Parker and Laura Crutchley Parker born on April 15, 1927. She married Paul H. Stier of Chicago on August 2, 1947.
She was a graduate of Greenville High School, Northern Baptist Theological Seminary with a Bachelor's in Christian Education, and Northern Illinois University with a Master's in Elementary School Education and a Certificate of Advanced Study in Elementary School Administration.
She worked for 40 years in Community School District 200 in Wheaton, Illinois. She taught at Lowell and Washington Elementary Schools. She was a principal of Emerson Elementary School for 23 years and served as a long-term intern principal at Hawthorne, Lowell, and Wiesbrook Elementary Schools. She was also an adjunct professor at Wheaton College teaching Early Childhood Development.
She was a member of First Baptist Church, Wheaton, Illinois where she served as a Sunday School Teacher, member of the Christian Education Committee, trustee and church librarian. She joined the Chapel of Redemption when she moved to South Carolina in 2000.
She is survived by her daughter, Melodie (David) Phillips of West Columbia, South Carolina; her son, Paul R. Stier of Dana Point, California; three grandchildren, Deana (Joshua) Riordan of Chapin, South Carolina, Adam Stier of Dana Point, California, and Jennifer Stier of San Francisco, California; two great-grandchildren Zachary and Zalia Riordan of Chapin, South Carolina; her brother, Raymond J. Parker of New Jersey; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul H. Stier in 1995.
