Nina I. Ohst, nee Phillips, age 70, a longtime resident of Wheaton, died Friday, July 24, at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield. She was born on August 23, 1938 in Chicago to Vic and Isabel Phillips.
She grew up on the south-side of Chicago. Her family later moved to Wheaton where she graduated from Wheaton High School in 1956. Nina married her beloved husband, Verner Ohst on April 5, 1963. They resided in Glen Ellyn and in 1976 moved to Wheaton where they raised their three children.
She was a woman of great faith and selflessly contributed her time to many charitable causes both professionally and personally. As a longtime employee of World Relief, Nina was dedicated to helping the less fortunate of the world and in her own community. Her joys in life included her family and dear friends. She felt blessed to spend time with them skiing, golfing, bowling, traveling and she was a lifelong White Sox fan.
Her love of the Lord drew her to be involved in her church. At Peace Lutheran Church she was involved with Joy Break, Bible Study, Feed My Starving Children, and PADS.
Her loss will be deeply felt by her children who remember her as a wonderful and loving mother. One of her great joys was her grandchildren. She was deeply involved in their lives and brought them much happiness.
Nina is survived by her husband, Verner, three children, Phil Ohst of San Francisco, CA, Andy (Janeth Salazar-Ohst) Ohst of Naperville, and Cari (Chad) Jerdee of Geneva, and four grandchildren, Kyla, Erik, Anna and Sarah.
She was preceded in death by her beloved parents and sister, Janet Wesolek.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 29 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St. in Wheaton. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 30 at 11:00 a.m. at at Peace Lutheran Church, 21W500 Butterfield Rd. in Lombard with Rev. Marty Hufford officiating.
