Nicolas G. Virgil, age 86, a resident of Glen Ellyn, died suddenly on Monday, May 22. He was born June 10, 1930 in New York, NY to John and Marion Virgil.
Nick was born prematurely at home, weighing one pound. Despite the odds, he grew up healthy. As a child in Manhattan and Brooklyn he worked on the streets, selling things and shining shoes to help provide for his family.
On May 19, 1951, he married Alice Stoll. Eventually, he took a job with Zurich America as a machinery underwriter and moved to the Chicago area. In the 1980's he opened and ran Delights Deli in Westmont.
Known by some friends as "Hopper", Nick was loved by many. He loved animals and enjoyed pencil drawing, artwork, music, following football and fishing. Most of all he loved spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Alice, daughter, Diane (Joseph) Bouse of Countryside, and one sister, Marion Ferri of NY.
A visitation will be held on Friday, May 26, from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton, where a funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow the service at Wheaton Cemetery in Wheaton, Illinois.
