Nelda Lalka, age 88, a resident of Windsor Park in Carol Stream, IL, died August 4, 2011, at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, Illinois. She was born May 15, 1923 in Reno, Nevada to Rubyn and Alice Mobley.

Nelda grew up in Nevada and Southern California during the depression where her father was a farmer. She moved to San Francisco where she worked and met Herbert Lalka who had just returned from the war. They were married on her birthday in 1948. He worked for Bank of America and they moved to Singapore in 1965 with their two children. In 1974 they moved to Glen Ellyn.

She volunteered for Singapore Bible College while they were living in Singapore. She was an active member of the Wheaton Evangelical Free Church where she served as a deaconess. Nelda was the consummate homemaker, she was known for her cooking, sewing, and entertaining. She loved gardening and being outdoors. During retirement she enjoyed traveling all over the world on short term mission trips.

She is survived by two children, Nancy (Ernie) Vance of Portland, OR and John (Jean) Lalka of Aurora; 5 grandchildren, Monica (Matthew) Holz, Peter, Johanna (Matthew) Heller, Stephan Lalka, and Jonathan Wigington, and one great-grandson, William Wigington. She is also survived by two brothers, Dale and Robert Mobley and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert in 1991, and her parents.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, August 7, 2011 from 3 to 6 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home 304 N. Main St., Wheaton, IL. A funeral service will be held on Monday, August 8, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at Wheaton Evangelical Free Church, 520 E. Roosevelt Rd. in Wheaton, IL 60187. Interment will be private at Wheaton Cemetery in Wheaton, Illinois.
