Obituary

Neal L. Hunter, age 85, a resident of Carol Stream, IL, died Tuesday, March 6, 2018, at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, IL. He was born June 16, 1932 in Chicago, IL.

In Chicago, Illinois, Neal was born to Paul and Daisy. The youngest sibling of Carol, Bud and Gordon. He attended Peirce Elementary School and Senn High School. In 1951 he married Sally and they moved to Virginia a year later when Neal enlisted in the Army.  Their first two children, Glenn and Debbie, were born in Virginia. After two years of service, they returned to the Chicago area. They had two more children, Neal and Donna.

Neal worked in sewer and watermain construction and the homebuilding business for many years.  One of his proudest accomplishments was his work on the Schaumburg women's shelter project that provided housing for women and their children in recovery.

Neal spent many years involved with the American Cancer Society through which he was very active in the Carol Stream Relay For Life.  He loved to be around children. He fancied himself an amateur magician and loved to perform magic shows. He was passionate about volunteering at Sunday School and Awana for the kids at Village Bible Church in Carol Stream. He will be greatly missed by his nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren among many others.

He is survived by his four children, Glenn (Charlotte) Hunter of Elk Grove Village, IL, Debbie (Tom) Templin of Carol Stream, IL, Neal (Diane) Hunter of Itasca, IL, and Donna (Don) Dewar of Elk Grove Village, IL; nine grandchildren, Stephanie (Michael) Bonarirgo, Paul (Tiffany) Hunter, and Valerie (David) Carella, Kimberly (Scott) Bryant, Kristen Templin and Kevin (Kimberly) Templin, and Rebecca (Chad) Martinez, Daniel Dewar and Andrew Dewar; seven great-grandchildren; and his sister-in-law, Matrie Hunter.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Sally.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 8, 2018 from 3:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a funeral service taking place at 7:00 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., in Wheaton, IL. Interment will be private at All Saints Cemetery in Des Plaines, IL.
