Natalie "Twinks" Sweeney Haeger, age 93, a resident of Windsor Park in Carol Stream, IL, died Saturday, August 11, 2018, at Windsor's Johnson Health Care Center. She was born March 31, 1925 in Batavia IL, where her father nicknamed her "Twinks" because of her twinkly eyes.
In 8th grade her family moved to Wheaton, where she graduated from Wheaton High School in 1942. She went on to Carleton College where she graduated Phi Beta Kappa in 1946. Soon after, Twinks met Bob Haeger, who had just returned from World War II. They were married December 27, 1946, and were together 65 years.
Twinks was a woman of her time. She relished her role of wife and mother of three sons, and a grandmother of four. Her greatest joy in life was seeing them all become kind and successful men.
Twinks's great love was music. Even four years into the dementia that was to dominate her final years, she was able to sit down and play Silent Night on the piano.
Twinks was an avid bridge player, and she and Bob loved traveling together. She was a long time member of the First Presbyterian Church of Wheaton.
She is survived by her three sons, Robert (Kate) Haeger of Highlands Ranch, CO, Steve (Laife) Haeger of Bay St. Louis, MS, and Brad (Jan) Haeger of Mill Creek, WA; and four grandchildren, Matt (Rachel) and Dan, Jeff, Mike and great-granddaughter, Ivy.
She was preceded in death by her husband Bob Haeger and her brother, Frank (Ned) Sweeney.
A memorial service will be held on August 27th at Hultgren Funeral Home at 10:00 A.M. Interment will be private at Wheaton Cemetery in Wheaton, IL.
