Naomi Jean Mallery (Fast), age 85, of Wheaton, IL, died peacefully on Friday, December 16, 2016. She was born at home on October 7, 1931 in New Geneva, PA, to James and Ruth Fast (Emler).
Naomi was raised in Smithfield, PA and graduated from Point Marion High School. She received her BA in Elementary Education from California State Teacher's College. She taught several years at the elementary level before dedicating her time as a mother and homemaker. She returned to teaching preschool at First Presbyterian Church after raising her children.
She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Samuel, whom she met working at Gorley's Lake Resort in Uniontown, Pennsylvania. She is also survived by her four children Tad Mallery, Missy Bansch (Rick), Kim Mallery (Joe Popp), and Shawn Mallery (Kathleen), 10 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and her brother, Jay Fast (Ruth).
Sam and Naomi moved to Wheaton in 1961 and immediately became active leaders in the community. Their membership at First Presbyterian Church was their first priority. Naomi served in many capacities including as an Elder, Deacon and Director of Pastoral Care for over 13 years. She was instrumental in starting the Stephens Ministry program and trained over 100 care givers.
Her unconditional love and kindness touched countless lives. Her modeling of servant-leadership will be her legacy for years to come. She will be greatly missed.
A visitation will be held on Monday, December 19, 2016 from 4-8 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., in Wheaton, IL. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at
First Presbyterian Church of Wheaton
