Nancy Jean Walker, age 78, a resident of the Wheaton area, went home to glory on Monday, November 11, 2013. She was born in Chicago, IL on June 28, 1935.
Nancy grew up in Chicago and moved to Wheaton with her parents to attend Wheaton College, graduating in 1957. After graduation, Nancy taught school in Rockford before joining Pioneer Clubs.
Beginning in 1961 Nancy worked as a field representative for Pioneer Girls in Indiana and western Michigan. She also directed Camp Cherith camps in Michigan, Illinois, Texas, and Maryland. She left Pioneer Girls to teach 4th grade in the Philadelphia area. While there she earned her Master's of Education degree in 1974 from West Chester State College (now West Chester University).
In 1980 she returned to the Wheaton area and rejoined Pioneer Clubs serving as editor and typesetter in the publications department. In 1993, she became the executive administrative assistant to the President of Pioneer Clubs. She served in that position until her retirement in 2006.
Nancy was an active member of the Wheaton Evangelical Free Church. She served as a deaconess, a member of the choir, a Sunday school teacher and superintendent, and volunteered in the church library and office. She was also a member of the leadership team of Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) for a number of years.
Serving others was very important to Nancy. After retiring, she volunteered at Central Du Page Hospital and the Evangelical Child and Family Agency.
Nancy is survived by her brother James (Sonja) of Bolingbrook, IL, Nieces, Janice Perry and Joy Ann Walker, nephew, Mark Walker (Christine) and several great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hubert and Margaret Walker.
A memorial service will be held Mon., Nov. 18, 2013 at 11:00 am at Wheaton Evangelical Free Church, 520 E. Roosevelt, Wheaton, IL 60187. Interment was private at Wheaton Cemetery.
