Obituary

Nancy A. Sandoz, age 88, a resident of Windsor Park in Carol Stream, died  Sunday, July 4, 2021.  She was born November 12, 1932 in Superior, Wisconsin to Arthur & Mary Moller.

Raised in Poplar, Wisconsin by her older siblings, because her parents were deceased by the time she was 13.  She had to pay for her own education at  Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota.  In the summer, she would visit her sister Lil in Washington, DC, while working  as an intern. This is where she met her future husband, George.  She was 18 and he was 29 but because of her carefree spirit and the bug for traveling he waited or her. One of the places she explored was a European excursion via a month long cargo barge trip. George waited ….and waited …and waited some more, for the love of his life until the barge returned eleven years later. (Just Kidding)  But he did wait until her travel bug subsided and they tied the knot when he was 40 and she was 29 years old.  And nine months later, John came along, followed by Jennifer, and Clay.
During those eleven years she graduated as an English teacher and taught high school English across the country.  After her marriage to George they lived in Maryland until 1970,  and the westward expansion began and they landed in Wheaton, Il and ended up at Glen Ellyn Covenant Church. She was a stay at home mom until they were old enough to be by themselves at home, and she began working at The Ark Preschool for 30+ years where she was loved by hundreds of 5 year olds and their parents.

Nancy was an active participant in BSF, Bible Study Fellowship.  She provided many of her delicious casseroles at PADS, the homeless shelter, along with several years as the liaison with Glen Ellyn Food Pantry.

Along with this very active volunteerism, she was a very active and beloved grandmother to each and every one.  Her apple pie was an all time  gramma favorite along with her homemade whipped cream.   We were blessed by her exceptional formal tablescapes featuring her famous casseroles and jello molds.  Also, she never forgot a birthday even though the personalized birthday card frequently arrived six months late but appreciated nonetheless.  Her volunteer time rivaled the amount of time that she spent on gift giving, note taking, letter writing, and phone calls to stay connected to her relatives in Wisconsin and out East. Her infectious smile,  her kind and encouraging words and her authenticity is what she will be remebered by the most.

She is survived by her two children, John (Penny) Sandoz of Wheaton & Jennifer (Robert) Wolfe of Massillon, OH; seven grandchildren, Paige (Ray Manzano) Sandoz, Michael (fiance Sheena Fernandez) Sandoz, and Maddy (Mason) Bonner; and Anthony, Sam, John, and Adam Wolfe.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George; her son Clay Sandoz; her siblings: Walter (the late Gerry) Moller, Esther (the late Victor) Pelto, Lillian (the late Otto) Berg, June (the late Stanley) Sawicki, and infant brother Roy; and her parents.
