Nancy Anne
Hawley
February 11, 1939 – September 28, 2021
Nancy Anne Hawley was born February 11, 1939 in Seattle, Washington, the first child of Roy and Anna Hall. She was followed by 2 brothers, David and Fred. The family later moved to Eugene, Oregon, where they began attending a small church during her high school years. There Nancy met the two most important loves of her life: her Savior Jesus Christ and her pastor, Wendell Hawley. Wendell and Nancy married in 1957, just a few days after she graduated from high school. They moved to a new pastorate in Portland, Oregon, where their "3B's" were born: Beth, Becky and Bonnie. Nancy loved being a mother and a pastor's wife.
After moving to Carol Stream, IL in 1969, Nancy began knocking on doors, meeting her neighbors, and inviting women to her home to study the Bible together. Over the years she spoke to thousands of women at Christian Women's Clubs throughout the Midwest and was an integral part of the teaching team in the early days of the College Church Women's Bible Study, where many women treasured her hand drawn lessons. She had a radiant smile, ready laugh and servant's heart. She was the life of the party, the maker of fun, an effortless homemaker, a woman of peace and unwavering faith, and the giver of so much love. She believed in, and lived out, the abundant life that Jesus gives.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Anna Hall, and is survived by Wendell Hawley, her husband of 64 years; her three daughters Beth (Barton) Bergman, Becky Engebretsen, and Bonnie (Daniel) May; her 11 grandchildren Hannah, Karen and Judson Bergman, Carsten, Hans (Bailey), Brigitta and Heidi Engebretsen, Elliott (Molly), Ethan (Caila), Henry (Summer), and Rose May; great grandchildren Barton and Annali Engebretsen and Lucy May; brothers Dave (Sherry) and Fred (Gloria) Hall; her "almost sisters" Ann Gunhus and Donna Hawley; and 11 nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held October 9, 2021 at 10:00 A.M. at College Church in Wheaton, with private burial in Seattle. A livestream of the service will be available here: Livestream of Nancy Hawley Funeral . Nancy said many times over the years that she wanted people to wear red to her funeral and enjoy ice cream together, because it will be a celebration that she is with Jesus.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests gifts be made in support of student scholarships at Wheaton Academy , 900 Prince Crossing Rd, West Chicago, 60185.
