Mykola Kovalov, 73, of Addison, Illinois, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on September 23, 2026.

Mykola was born on March 1, 1953, in Krasnyi Pakhar, a mining settlement in the Donetsk region of Ukraine, to Vladimir Kovalev and Alexandra Kovalova. His family later moved from the Donbas region to Khmilnyk in the Vinnytsia region of Ukraine, where he spent his childhood.

From 1969 to 1971, Mykola attended a vocational technical college in Odesa, where he trained as an electrical technician. He later served in the Soviet Army. In 1973, he moved to Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, where he spent most of his adult life. In April 2024, he moved to the United States and settled in Illinois.

Mykola was raised in a Christian family rooted in the Evangelical faith. Later in life, he returned to the faith in which he had been raised, and during the last decade of his life, his relationship with God became an important part of his daily life. He would often kneel in prayer, remembering his children, grandchildren, brothers, sisters, and others by name, bringing their needs and circumstances before God and asking for His blessing upon each of them.

For 30 years, Mykola shared his life with his wife, Olha, who remained by his side through both joyful and difficult seasons. Through the health challenges of his later years, she cared for and supported him, continuing to do so throughout his final illness and until the end of his life.

Among his interests were soccer and fishing. His home was always open to friends, family, and guests.

Mykola is survived by his wife, Olha Kovalova; his daughters, Iuliia Perkhalska, Alina Mykhailenko, and Alina Tutunnik; and his son, Kostiantyn Kovalov. He had seven grandchildren: Nazarii, Myroslav, Roman, and Alan, children of his daughter Alina Mykhailenko; and Maroussia, Michel, and Marc, children of his daughter Alina Tutunnik.

He is also survived by his brothers, Peter Kovalev and Vladimir Kovalev, and his sisters, Nadya Shiper and Katrine Martsenuk.

A visitation will be held at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton, Illinois 60187, on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Wheaton Cemetery.

Николай Ковалёв, 73 лет, проживавший в городе Аддисон, штат Иллинойс, отошёл в вечность к своему Господу и Спасителю 23 сентября 2026 года.

Николай родился 1 марта 1953 года в шахтёрском посёлке Красный Пахарь Донецкой области Украины в семье Владимира Ковалёва и Александры Ковалёвой. Позднее семья переехала из Донбасса в город Хмельник Винницкой области, где прошло детство Николая.

С 1969 по 1971 год Николай учился в профессионально-техническом учебном заведении в Одессе, где получил специальность техника-электрика. Позднее он служил в Советской Армии. В 1973 году Николай переехал в Киев, столицу Украины, где прожил большую часть своей взрослой жизни. В апреле 2024 года он переехал в Соединённые Штаты и поселился в штате Иллинойс.

Николай вырос в христианской семье, укоренённой в евангельской вере. В более зрелые годы он вернулся к вере, в которой был воспитан, и в последнее десятилетие его жизни отношения с Богом стали важной частью его повседневной жизни. Он часто преклонял колени в молитве, поимённо вспоминая своих детей, внуков, братьев, сестёр и других близких ему людей, принося перед Богом их нужды и жизненные обстоятельства и прося Божьего благословения для каждого из них.

На протяжении 30 лет Николай разделял свою жизнь со своей женой Ольгой, которая оставалась рядом с ним и в радостные, и в трудные времена. В последние годы, когда Николай сталкивался с серьёзными проблемами со здоровьем, она заботилась о нём и поддерживала его, продолжая быть рядом во время его последней болезни и до самого конца его жизни.

Среди его интересов были футбол и рыбалка. Двери его дома всегда были открыты для друзей, родных и гостей.

После Николая остались его жена Ольга Ковалёва; дочери Юлия Перхальская, Алина Михайленко и Алина Тютюнник; сын Константин Ковалёв. У Николая семеро внуков: Назарий, Мирослав, Роман и Алан — дети его дочери Алины Михайленко; Маруся, Мишель и Марк — дети его дочери Алины Тутунник.

Также у Николая остались братья Пётр Ковалёв и Владимир Ковалёв и сёстры Надя Шипер и Катерина Марценюк.
