Morton C. James, 99, of Carol Stream, IL, died Wednesday, January 11 at Windsor Park Manor. He was born October 14, 1906 in Cedar Lake, MN. He was raised and lived most of his life in Iowa.
Mr. James graduated from Iowa State University in 1935 with a major in Agronomy. He worked for thirty two years with the U.S. Department of Agriculture in the Soil Conservation Service. Over twenty years of his career was spent in Poweshiek County, Iowa.
Mr. James loved woodworking, reading, history, and journalistic writing. Local newspapers often published his letters to the editor about moral and ethical issues.
His faith was important to him, receiving Christ as his Savior as a young boy, and he remained active in the local church his whole life. A gifted and thoughtful Bible teacher, he enjoyed meeting and encouraging people.
He is survived by his four daughters, Marcelyn (Everett) Peterson of Wheaton, IL, Gwendolyn (Robert) Wright of Naperville, IL, Carolyn (James) Orme of Wheaton, IL, and Roselyn (Dr. Darrel) Shaver of Columbia, SC; nine grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren (ranging from 1-9 years old); nieces; nephews; cousins; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Hazel; his brother, Ralph; and his sister, Mary.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, January 14, from 3:30-7:30 P.M. at the Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., in Wheaton. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, January 15, at the chapel at Windsor Park Manor, 123 Windsor Park Drive, in Carol Stream. Interment will be held in Montezuma, Iowa.
