Obituary

Monty R. Newton, age 77, of Wheaton, IL, passed away Sunday, October 26, 2025.  He was born May 29, 1948, in Winterset, Iowa to Owen & Irma Lee Newton.

Monty spent his childhood in Winterset and Ogden, IA. He graduated from Odgen High School where he excelled in football, wrestling and track. He went on to St. Paul Bible College earning a degree in Bible and Theology and meeting the love of his life, Bonnie. They married in 1970 and had 3 children together, Pat, Lorri & Corky.

Monty and Bonnie served faithfully in ministry together for 55 years in the communities of Cottage Grove, MN (Park Grove Alliance), Lincoln, NE (Central Alliance Church), Oberlin, KS (Lund Covenant Church), Fullerton, CA (Fullerton Alliance Church), Scranton, KS (Scranton Covenant Church), Red Oak, IA (Red Oak Covenant Church), Westminster, CO (Fellowship Covenant Church), and Franklin Park, IL (St. Paul's Evangelical Covenant Church).

Monty served The Evangelical Covenant Church on the Midwest Committee on Ministerial Standing, Board of Ordered Ministry, Covenant Village Colorado Management Advisory Committee, and Midwest Covenant Conference Executive Board.

People often referred to Monty as the friendliest and funniest person they have known. He had a way of making people laugh until they cried. His humor could not be equaled; and neither could his contagious laugh. He was a beloved pastor, spiritual leader, and tremendous friend to his family and the communities he served. He enjoyed writing, reading, crossword puzzles, and his "patio time". He loved his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and never failed to mention that he was the luckiest guy alive to have Bonnie as his wife.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Bonnie; his children Lorri (Alby) Zander and Corky (Amy) Newton; his grandchildren Zach (Kass) Zander, Matti (JDrew) Zander McGovern, Leeya Zander, Samson Zander, Benji Zander, Adam Newton, Ethan Newton, and Avery Newton; his great-grandchildren Ezra Zander McGovern and Quinn Zander; his brother John (Sherri) Newton.

He was preceded in death by his son Patrick Newton; his parents; his brothers Randy & Alan (Gloria) Newton.

Services will be held privately.
