Milfred F. Smith, age 87, recently of Temecula, CA, and a longtime resident of Orange, CA, died on Saturday, November 30, 2013 at home. He was born on May 12, 1926 in Shelby, N.C.

Milfred served in the US Marine Corps from 1943 to 1946 in the South Pacific. He then served in the US Air Force from 1948 to 1986, retiring as a Captain. He graduated in 1957 from Long Beach State College, with a BS in physics & chemistry. In 1983 he completed his Master's degree in Computer Science from West Coast University. He worked for Autonetics-Rockwell-Boeing in financial management, retiring at age 58. He served for 22 years in Kiwanis, including one year as Lieutenant Governor. His activites and interests included high school Golden Glove boxer, Boy Scout leader, hiking, family genealogy, and study of the Bible. He also learned the building trade from his uncles, and built two houses, one in Biloxi, MS and one in Downey, CA.

He is survived by his wife, Dianne Smith; two sons, John and Robert; two daughters, Elizabeth and Kathleen; step-son, Charles; step-daughter, Julie; his brother, Ken; 14 grandchildren, April, Patricia, Caprice, Crystal, Sarah, Stephanie, Luke, Jonathan, Danielle, Jeffrey, Kayla, Karlye, Kellye, and Lindsey; and 27 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 11th, from 4-7 p.m. at Shannon-Bryan Mortuary, 137 E. Maple, Orange, CA 92866. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 12th, at 10:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Orange, 191 N. Orange Street, Orange, CA 92866, with Pastor Winston Presnall officiating.

Interment will follow at 2:15 p.m. at Riverside National Cemetery, 22495 Van Buren Boulevard, Riverside, CA 92518.
