Mildred S. Hollingsworth's Obituary
Mildred S. Hollingsworth, age 98, a resident of Windsor Park Manor in Carol Stream, IL, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 28, 2009 at Windsor's Johnson Health Care Center. She was born March 11, 1911 in Vincennes, IN.
Mildred lived 37 years in Wheaton before moving to Windsor Park Manor. She worked as a door to door salesperson for Watkins Products Co. and later worked for Gary Wheaton Bank. She volunteered for 15 years with the DuPage County Convalescent Center Auxiliary. She was an active member of Gary Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Women's Society. She was also the founder and President of the Central DuPage Arthritis Action Council and established the Arthritis Aquatic Program at the Naperville YMCA which is still active 26 years later at the Edward Health and Fitness Center. She was a Brownie and Girl Scout leader for many years, and was a member of the Moose Lodge. She enjoyed dancing with her husband Harold at the Arthur Murray Dance Studio in Chicago. They participated in competitive dance. She majored in English at Northwestern University in Evanston, IL where she met her husband, Harold. They were married on July 6, 1935. She loved people and helping others and exhibited great leadership ability.
She is survived by her two children, Harold Paul (Bonnie) Hollingsworth of West Chicago, IL, and Patricia Mae (David) Volkman of Naperville, IL; and her grandson, Timothy James (Megan) Hollingsworth of Aurora, IL.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Harold Person Hollingsworth; her mother, Lillie Mae Dillon; her father, Maurice Spalding; and her daughter, Judith Ann Hollingsworth.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 2, from 4-8 P.M. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., in Wheaton. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 3, at 10:00 A.M. at Gary Methodist Church, 224 N. Main St., in Wheaton. Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery in Winfield, IL.
