Obituary

Michael "Mike" P. Saleny, age 68, a long-time resident of Lombard, IL, passed away on Sunday, June 1, 2025.  He was born April 23, 1957 in Berwyn, IL to Joseph Frank & Doris Mae Saleny.

Mike graduated from Glenbard East High School in 1975. He then went on to start his 41-year career as a printer in 1978. During that time, he met the love of his life, Paula Brown, and they tied the knot on May 18, 1979. In August of 1983, they welcomed their 1st daughter, Melissa. Then in November of 1995, they welcomed their 2nd daughter, Hope. In 2019, Mike retired from the printing industry and joined Paula, driving children to school. No matter where Mike worked, he was an incredibly hard worker. Providing for his family was always his top priority.

In addition to being a provider, Mike was an avid freshwater aquarium hobbyist and fisherman much of his life, amassing a large collection of books that reflected his interest in the hobby. Mike and Paula both loved the outdoors, including digging in the dirt. Mike was a prolific gardener of flowers, vegetables and herbs, focusing on vegetables and herbs later in life. Every year, their garden got bigger and bigger, and they loved sharing their bounty with family and friends.

In 1990, Mike made the life-changing decision to dedicate his life to the Lord. As an ardent reader and with a brain like a sponge, he traded in his fish library for a library of theology, collecting hundreds of books on the subject. Mike was a passionate learner, especially when it came to knowing the God of the Bible. He found peace after a lifetime of struggles and loved sharing the good news with anyone who would listen.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Paula; his children Melissa (Jon Iffland) Saleny and Hope (Daemon) Castillo; his grandson Dean Michael Carlson; his sister Debi (Lenny Frieling) Dodge; his father and mother-in-law Robert & Rita Brown; his sister-in-law Linda (Dennis) Loy; his niece Kelly (Alexander) Felske; his grandnieces Emersyn and Harper Felske. He was preceded in death by his parents.
