Michael J. Oates' Obituary
Michael J. Oates, age 64, a resident of Geneva, IL, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 29, 2013, at home, after a long, courageous battle with cancer.
A longtime resident of Wheaton and Winfield, IL, Michael was born on October 1, 1948 in Geneva, IL to Harold and Renee Oates. He graduated from Glenbard West High School in 1966 and went on to Florida International University. Following high school, Michael was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in the fourth round and later played for the Montreal Expos.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Nancy; his three children, Brittany, Ryan and Zachary; his brothers, Lou (Barb) Oates, Daniel (Merry) Oates, Timothy (Laura) Oates, Robert (Judy) Knaak, John (Arlene) Knaak; and many loving nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his stepmother, Mary Oates.
He will be remembered as a loving and dedicated husband, a dear father and loyal friend.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, June 1, 2013 from 4-8 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., in Wheaton, IL. A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, June 2, 2013 from 10:30 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. at Arrow Head Golf Club, 26W151 Butterfield Road, in Wheaton, IL.
Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to the Building Fund at Calvary Church of Naperville, 9S200 State Route 59, Naperville, IL 60564.
