Michael H. Dyk, age 93, a resident of Glen Ellyn, IL, died Thursday, February 9, 2017, at Brookdale in Glen Ellyn, IL. He was born March 30, 1923 in Chicago, IL.
Michael lived in Washington Heights (Chicago) and then later in Roseland, Harvey, IL and Orland Park, IL. He served in the Navy during World War II in the Atlantic and Pacific theaters on a Destroyer escort where he was trained as a radioman. After the war he worked at WIND Radio as a Radio Engineer. His hobbies included boat building, inventing and wood working. He volunteered with Recordings for the Blind in Orland Park, IL. He was a patient, kind, and caring man and an inquisitive and curious person who wanted to know how everything worked. He had a great (unique) sense of humor and was an avid reader. He enjoyed traveling, long drives, and vacations with his wife, Edith.
He is survived by his daughter, Holly Trueblood of Glen Ellyn, IL; three step-children, Jerry (Kay) Hasson, Phyllis (Ron) Cheek and Philip (Judy) Hasson; nine grandchildren, Laurie (fiance Glen Koopman) Trueblood and Debbie (Tom Walker) Trueblood, Robert (Kim) Hasson, Cheryl (Tom) Tuttle, Mark Dahms, Kurt (Emily) Hasson, Melissa (Jerry) Owens, Anthony (Amanda) Hasson and Christopher; 15 great-grandchildren, Ashlee, Alex and Andrew Hasson, Chane (Mallory), Caitlin and Caleb Dahms, Kylie, Jacob and Carson Dahms, Noah, Sydney and Benjamin Hasson, Kendall and Keegan Owens, and Amelia Hasson; and two great-great-grandchildren, August Dahms and Moira Dahms.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Arlene Hutchinson; his wife of 40 years, Edith Dyk; his son-in-law, Lane Trueblood; his step-son, Dennis Hasson; his grandson, Michael Shawn Hasson; his parents; and his Uncle Herman "Buddy" Sanders.
A visitation will be held on Monday, February 13, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. until the start of a funeral service to be held at 6:30 p.m. at
Gary United Methodist Church
, 224 N. Main St., in Wheaton, IL 60187. Interment will be private at
Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery
in Elwood, IL.
