Maxine "Sally" Hamer, age 99, a resident of Windsor Park in Carol Stream, IL, died Sunday, June 2, 2013, at home. She was born May 6, 1914 in Manchester, IA.
Mrs. Hamer was a school music teacher before marriage in 1940. In the 60's and 70's she was an executive secretary to the Dean of the School of Business MBA program at USC in Los Angeles, CA. She was a wife, homemaker, mother of four children and an active participant in church and school music and art programs for children.
She is survived by her daughters, Judi (Neal) Whitecotton of Wheaton, IL, Suzan Hamer of Nunspeet, The Netherlands, and Patti Hamer, of Brevard, NC; her grandchildren, Sarah (Peter) Kessler of St. Louis, MO, Anne (Mike) Carpenter of Irvine, CA, Julie (David) Melilli of Wheaton, IL, Karen (John) Bonnell of East Lansing, MI, and Emma Karrsen of Nunspeet, The Netherlands; and her great-grandchildren, Abigail, Rachel, Suzanna, Thomas and Jonathan Kessler, Eve, Gwenyth and Isaac Carpenter, David Neal, Aaron, Josie and Megan Melilli, and Mary, John David and Sally Bonnell.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Hamer Jr., her son, Stephen Walter Hamer; her parents, Oscar and Elizabeth Smith; her sisters, Helen Smith, Alma Wilson, Margaret Coles and Virginia Corll; and her brother, Herbert Smith.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 6, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. at Windsor Park, 124 Windsor Park Dr., in Carol Stream, IL. Interment was private at Inglewood Park Cemetery in Inglewood, CA.
