Matthew Schlaiss, age 28, a resident of Warrenville, IL, died Monday, October 1, 2018, at Presence Mercy Hospital in Aurora, IL. He was born September 26, 1990 in Chicago, IL.

Matthew was a free spirit who touched so many lives. His laugh and smile was a magnet to those around him. He was a hard worker from skateboarding as a child to building sport courts as an adult. He enjoyed music festivals and filling in the holes in people's hearts. Matthew was more than a son, brother, uncle, and friend. He was an energy that people loved.

He is survived by his mother, Debra Schlaiss of Norton, VT; his father Daniel (Judy) Schlaiss of Sarasota, FL; his siblings, Daniel Schlaiss of Warrenville, IL, Megan (Nate Nicholas) Schlaiss of Aurora, IL; three step-siblings, Jessica Quinones, David Murray and Sophia Murray; his paternal grandmother, Mary Schlaiss of Maryville, TN; two nephews, Andrew and Jordan Schlaiss; and his girlfriend, Taylour Felt.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, George and Jeanette Huebner; his paternal grandfather, Gerard J. Schlaiss; and two friends, Steve Villarreal and Michael Bridges.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, October 6, 2018 from 3:00 p.m. until the start of a funeral service to be held at 7:00 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., in Wheaton, IL. Interment will be private.
