Matthew Christopher Anderson's Obituary
Matthew Christopher Anderson, age 17, a lifelong resident of Wheaton, died Thursday, May 20 at Hope Children's Hospital after a three year battle with leukemia. He was born on March 3, 1993 in Geneva, IL to Mark and Jill Anderson.
Matt graduated from Wheaton Christian Grammar School in 2007 and is a student at Wheaton Academy. He was involved with the student activities at Glen Ellyn Bible Church and at Wheaton Bible Church. In 2008 he was the Honored Hero of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Light the Night Walk for Chicago.
Matthew was a loyal friend who lived life to the fullest. Just prior to graduating 8th grade, Matt was diagnosed with Ph+ ALL leukemia and immediately began intense chemotherapy. He didn't let that prevent him from graduating with his classmates 12 days later or finishing freshman and sophomore years at Wheaton Academy as an Honor Roll student. Matt loved soccer, basketball and any other sports that pushed him to his physical limits. He had a personal relationship with his Lord Jesus Christ who gave him the strength to deal with his struggle with leukemia. "Be strong and courageous" (Joshua 1:9) held special meaning for Matt. He had a positive impact on others and encouraged others during difficult times.
He is survived by his parents, three siblings, Jonathan, Lindsey, and Samuel, his maternal grandparents, Walter and Bonnie Fuchs of Wheaton, and his paternal grandparents, Steve and Myrna Anderson of Seattle, WA. Matt was the nephew of Trent and Terri Bradford, Greg Fuchs, and Kristin Anderson and the oldest of cousins, Greg and Jeffrey Bradford, Soren, Brede and Stian Fuchs.
Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday, May 25, from 2 to 5 p.m. at Wheaton Bible Church, North Ave. in West Chicago, where a funeral service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Interment will be private in Door County Wisconsin.
Memorials may be directed to the Matthew Anderson Memorial Fund of Wheaton Christian Grammar School (530 East Harrison Avenue, Wheaton, IL 60187).
