Maryjean O'Brien's Obituary
MaryJean O'Brien, age 87, a resident of Lisle, IL, died Tuesday, January 28, 2014, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, IL. She was born June 28, 1926 in New York, NY.
MaryJean grew up in Bronxville, NY and loved visiting the family farm in Hurley, NY. She was an English Literature major at Syracuse University and a member of the Alpha Phi Sorority. MJ enjoyed playing golf at the Skokie Country Club, was a member of the Chicago Curling Club in Northbrook and the Skokie Curling Club in Glencoe. She worked for the Northbrook Public Library for 18 years. In recent years she moved to the Devonshire of Lisle.
She is survived by her three children, Leigh Larsen of San Carlos, CA, Janet (James) Waichunas of Glen Ellyn, IL, and Douglas (MaryJo) O'Brien of Ramona, CA; three grandchildren, Craig (Nicole) Waichunas, Cristine (Michael) Drwal, and Cara Nowakowski; six great-grandchildren, Dylan, Tyler, Bryce, Logan, Jaxson and Jacob; her sister, Barbara (Guy) Gollner of Vero Beach, FL; her brother-in-law, Glynn Mitchel; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerome; and her sister, Ruth Mitchel.
A memorial service is being planned for 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at Peace Lutheran Church, 21W500 Butterfield Road, in Lombard, IL. Interment will be private at the Village Presbyterian Church Memorial Garden.
In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be directed to The Midwest Shelter For Homeless Veterans, 119 N. West Street, Wheaton, IL 60187; or to the LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Fund, 333 W. Lake Street, Addison, Illinois 60101.
