MaryEllen Stanek, age 80, a resident of Wheaton for 60 years, passed away on Wednesday, June 10, at Forest View Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Itasca, Illinois. She was born December 16, 1934 in Chicago to Frank and Helen Ruvoli.
On September 25, 1954 she married Frank Stanek. They raised three daughters in the house that they built in Wheaton. She was very involved in the PTA at Pleasant Hill School. For many years she was the personal assistant of Msgr. Vincent J. Cloos of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Winfield.
MaryEllen was an active volunteer who served in the Wheaton Community Association. She worked as the executive director of the Winfield Chamber of Commerce in the 1980's. In retirement she loved to help raise her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Frank Stanek, three daughters, Georgia (Lester) Finkle of Chicago, Gloria (Bruce) Matejka of Wheaton and Gina (Kevin) Kelly of Wheaton, 5 grandchildren, Jessica, Dana, Ryan, Justin and Frances and one great-grandson, Tyler. She is also survived by one brother, Thomas (JoAnne) Ruvoli of Calumet City.
A memorial mass will be held at St John the Baptist Church in Winfield on Friday June 26 at 10 AM.
