Marybelle Miles Bauer's Obituary
Marybelle Miles Bauer, age 88, of Wheaton, IL, went home to be with her Lord peacefully on Sunday, November 9, 2014. She was born on June 17, 1926 in Des Moines, Iowa, to Hollis and Grace (Sterling) Miles.
Marybelle grew up in Des Moines and then moved to Iowa City and graduated from City High School. She was involved in school musicals and church activities such as leading the children's choir. It was through one of the musicals that she met her husband, William J. Bauer.
After finishing their degrees from the University of Iowa, they moved to the Chicago area, finally settling in LaGrange for 33 years. Marybelle participated and played leading roles in a number of community organizations. Over the years she was an active member of the First Congregational Church of La Grange , Western Springs Baptist Church , Westchester Bible Church , and most recently College Church in Wheaton. Marybelle joyfully shared her faith in Christ with all she met.
She was a gracious hostess, and had a caring spirit particularly for those hospitalized and home bound. Her greatest delight was serving her children and grandchildren, and encouraging them in their Christian faith.
In December of 2011, Marybelle had a major stroke, but she could still pray for her family and others, and express gratefulness for the care given to her.
She is survived by her four children: Holly (Dennis) Johnson of Charleston, WV, Bill (Carla) Bauer of Appleton,WI, John (Pam) Bauer of Wheaton, IL, and Penny (Bill) Thrasher of Wheaton, IL. Grandchildren Ben (and Amanda) Bauer, Megan (Jamie) DeHart, Will (Courtney) Thrasher, Katherine Bauer, Michael Thrasher, Amy Bauer, Emily Bauer, David Bauer, and David Thrasher. Great-grandchildren Marleigh, Ava Belle, and one soon to be born in April 2015 to Will and Courtney.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, William John Bauer, her parents, and her brother, Sterling Miles.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 21, at 11:00 AM at College Church , 332 East Seminary Avenue, Wheaton, IL 60187, where friends may visit with the family from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to College Church of Wheaton or Moody Bible Institute .
