Mary Wall, age 88, a resident of Wheaton, IL since 1967, died suddenly on Friday, August 31, 2012. She passed away peacefully in her favorite chair while reading the paper in her living room. She was born July 28, 1924 in Marengo, IL to Floyd and Mabel Johnson.
Mary grew up in Champaign, IL where she graduated from University High School. She worked at the radio station at the University of Illinois. While attending the university she met Charles Wall who was earning his Engineering degree. They were married on December 22, 1945 at the home of his parents in Bremerton, WA. After several moves they settled in northern Florida to raise their four daughters. She worked for Duval County Civil Engineers in Jacksonville.
After moving to Wheaton, she worked for Wieboldt's Department Store as Personnel Manager. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and the Wheaton History Center. She was a longtime member of Gary United Methodist Church.
She especially enjoyed tending to the flowers in her yard. For over two decades she looked forward to her weekday morning coffee klatch with her friends at the Wheaton Sports Center. She also took pleasure in opera, movies and Broadway shows. She delighted in following all of the activities of her grandchildren and extended family. She adored her dog Rosie's companionship.
She is survived by four daughters, Nancy (Kermit) Marquand of Littleton, Colorado, Linda Dimopoulos of Windermere, Florida, Barbara (Ed) Drabant of Wheaton and Dorothy Wall of Santa Ana, California, 9 grandchildren, Kyle, Reed, and Ross Marquand, Charla, Ken, Laura and Amy Drabant, Alex Dimopoulos and Erika Wall.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, parents and five siblings, Burdette Johnson, Alice Parker, Wilma O'Neil, Gordon Johnson, and Sara Rawlinson.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 5, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St. in Wheaton. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 6, at 10:30 A.M. at Gary United Methodist Church. A private interment will be held at Grand Rapids Township Cemetery in Grand Ridge, IL.
