Mary Maria Vescelus, age 89, a resident of Algonquin, and formerly of Wheaton, died Monday, July 7, 2014, at Crystal Pines Nursing Home in Crystal Lake, Illinois. She was born July 15, 1924 in Edinburgh, Scotland to Archibald and Susan McCallum.

When she was four years old her family moved to the Chicago area where Mary went on to graduate from Morton East High School. She married Daniel Jacob Krumes on July 17, 1948 at Cicero Bible Church. They raised their family in Wheaton, where she worked for Wheaton Academy and Pioneer Press. After Daniel's death in 1977, she moved to Phoenix, Arizona where she worked for Good Life Publishers. In 1986, she married a longtime friend, John Vescelus. They moved back to Wheaton and then back to Arizona where John died in 1999. Mary moved to Algonquin to live with her daughter in 2005.

For many years she was an active member of the Kupples Klass at Wheaton Evangelical Free Church and Grace Community Church in Tempe, Arizona.

She is survived by her children, Kathy (Bill) Erickson of Algonquin and Gregory (Carol Lynne) Krumes of Gurnee, five grandchildren, Melissa (Adam) Becker, Justin Krumes, Stephanie (Bob) Coons, Lisa (Steve) Centers, and Marc Erickson, and nine great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by her step-children, Jennifer (Andrew) Searle, Barbara Vescelus and Steve Vescelus.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, her parents, one grandson, Eric Erickson, and three brothers.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at 11:30 a.m. at Wheaton Evangelical Free Church, 520 E Roosevelt Rd. in Wheaton.
