Obituary

Mary Ollie Vee Walpole Lowe passed peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, February 3, 2021. She was the only child of Allie and Ivy F. Walpole of Portsmouth, Virginia. Ollie Vee graduated from James Madison University with a BA in Education and from The College of William & Mary with a Masters of Education.

She was the devoted wife of Gentry H. Lowe, for 67 years. She is survived by her daughter Cynthia Anne Lowe Rynning (Larry), son Robert Walpole Lowe (Karen) and five grandchildren, Jessica Leigh Rynning Entingh (Nathan), Stephanie Anne Rynning, Elizabeth Lowe Rynning Androulidakis (Adam), Emily Florence Lowe, and Harrison Gentry Walpole Lowe. Ollie Vee is also survived by four great-grandchildren, Dagny Amelia Entingh, Noah Gentry Entingh, Stelios Anastasious Androulidakis, and Aerys Olivee Androulidakis.

Ollie Vee Lowe retired from an Education career after 37 years, 25 of which were with Newport News Public Schools as a Teacher, Special Education Coordinator and Supervisor.

She was a member of Hidenwood Presbyterian Church in Newport News where she served on the Deaconate, in the Choir, and as a Sunday School teacher. She later became a member of the Williamsburg Presbyterian Church.

Ollie Vee was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, an honorary society for women educators, and the Williamsburg Chapter of the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution. She volunteered at the Riverside Regional Medical Center, in Colonial Williamsburg as an Interpreter and part of the Electronic Field Trip Productions, and as a tutor at the Rita Welch Center for Literacy at the College of William & Mary.

Ollie Vee Walpole Lowe portrayed a combination of style and grace. She will be remembered by all who knew her well as a deeply caring woman who loved to laugh, tell stories, travel, read, go on family vacations, give her time to the community, and enjoy conversations with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren whenever she could. Ollie Vee was the quintessential mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend who could be counted on to offer unconditional love and sage advice when asked, or share laughter and tears.

She lived by example and held the same high expectations for her friends and family that she had for herself. Most importantly, Ollie Vee demonstrated unwavering devotion to her husband, Gentry, and loved her family more than any possession she had or could have been given. Truly, Ollie Vee Lowe was a role model and someone whose legacies of love, intelligence, strength, and so much more will last forever.
