Mary Lombaer, age 97, a resident of Wheaton, IL, died Sunday, October 30, 2016, at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, IL. She was born December 31, 1918 in Austria.
She came to America departing from Bremen on February 26, 1936 on the SS Bremen arriving in New York on March 2, 1936 and was naturalized on July 28, 1943. Her U.S. contact was Paul Mercsanits.
Her father died in 1925 and she taught her mother to read and write. She also helped sending the crops to Vienna and helped keep track of what each family sent. She was a wonderful cook and made a little money with recipes sent to the Chicago Tribune.
She was the daughter of Johan and Maria. She had two brothers, Stephan and Karl who both died in WWII. She had two sisters Juliana (Herman) Kulovits and Hermina (Viktor) Novoszel. Juliana died in 1991 and Hermina died in 2011.
She married Donald Lombaer and had three children, Donna (Richard) Bauer, Steven, and Thomas. Steven died in 2003 in Springfield, IL.
She was a kind hearted and loving mother.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, November 3, 2016 from 10-11 a.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., in Wheaton, IL. Prayers will be said after the visitation at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery in Glenwood, IL.
