Mary Ruth Gibson, age 87, a resident of Warrenville, IL, and formerly a longtime resident of Rockford, went to be with the Lord on Friday, January 9, at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, Illinois. She was born October 7, 1927 in New Windsor, Illinois to Harold and Ruth Plunkett.

Mary graduated from Monmouth College and taught for many years in the Rockford Public Schools. From 1953 to 1954 she taught military children in Germany for the Department of Defense. In 1957, she married Donald R. Gibson in Rockford, where they raised two children. For many years they were active members of the Blackhawk Trails Club where they formed many friendships.

Her Christian faith was an important part of her life and she was active in several Rockford Churches and volunteered for the Rockford Rescue Mission. In 2007 she moved to be with her daughter. She enjoyed attending ESSE Adult Day Care until her passing.

She is survived by her children, Robert Gibson and Julie Gibson both of Warrenville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald R. Gibson in 2006, her parents and three sisters and two brothers.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 13, at 7:00 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton, IL 60187. Friends may visit with the family from 6 until 7 p.m. A service will also be held at Sunset Memorial Garden in Machesney Park, IL on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. followed by a committal service.
