Obituary

Mary Dolan, age 84, a resident of Winfield and Wheaton for many years, went to be with the Lord, peacefully, surrounded by her children and dear friends, on Thursday, January 7, 2016. She was born at the height of the depression - November 3, 1931- into a family of two parents and a year old baby brother.

Mary was raised a Roman Catholic and attended parochial schools- grade, high, and one year of college at a convent college. After one year of college, she began working for a large manufacturing company as secretary to the vice-president. Five years later she resigned and joined the U. S. Foreign Service and spent six months in Washington, D.C. From there she was assigned to Saigon, Vietnam and lived and served there two years, traveling around the world until returning home.

At age 29, she married a former seminarian. They quickly had five children in six years. Five years after their youngest child was born her husband left Mary and the family. She worked very hard to provide for her family. After various jobs, she became a staff member at Wheaton Bible Church, working as Administrative Assistant to three youth pastors. She was very involved at Wheaton Bible Church where she enjoyed going on mission trips, high school trips and serving in many ways. In retirement, she continued to work at the Welcome Desk.

Although she was a faithful churchgoer her whole life, at age 42 she came into a personal relationship with Jesus that changed her life. She was passionate about her faith and her family.

She is survived by her children, Terry (Rolland) Krone of DeKalb, Timothy J. Dolan of Winfield, Amy (Tim) Demel of Algonquin, Julie (the late Tom) Reagan of Bartlett and Meg (Rich) Christianson of Carpentersville, 13 grandchildren, Melissa, Dennis, Tracy, Jessie, Kelsey, David, Katelyn, Shanin, Logan, Rachael, Lauren, Haley and Chase, brother Joe (Arlene) Rategan and sister Catherine Rategan.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Helen Rategan and her sister, Helenann Rategan.
