Obituary

Mary Brugmann, age 74, a resident of West Chicago for 44 years, died Tuesday, December 7 at home . She was born on February 7, 1930 in Minonk, IL to John and Hannah Sullivan. She lived most of her childhood in Amboy, IL, where she was an active member of the First Baptist Church.

Mary graduated from the Moody Bible Institute in 1953. While attending Moody, she began working part-time at Greater Europe Mission where she later met her husband Donald Brugmann. She continued working with the mission for the next 50 years, supporting her husband who became Executive Director of the mission. In 1960 they moved to West Chicago where they started their family and became active members of the West Chicago Bible Church.

Mary dedicated her life to serving her family, her church and her community. Her dedication to her family was displayed by her involvement with school functions, sports, and social activities. She worked with children's and youth ministries until the age of 67. She was also involved with Women's Ministries and developed an e-mail prayer chain in the church. In her last ten years, Mary broadened her focus to the community of West Chicago serving on District 33's Long Range Planning Committee and volunteering as an election judge.

She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Dr. Don Brugmann, three children, Sharon (Michael) Finlon, Stephen Brugmann, Sheree Brugmann all of West Chicago, two grandchildren, Aurica and Gyula Finlon, one brother, Marvin (Nada) Sullivan of Arkansas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and one sister.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 9 from 3 until 9 p.m. at the West Chicago Bible Church, 209 S. Oakwood (located 1 block south of Washington St.), West Chicago. Further visitation will precede a funeral service on Friday from 9 until 10:30 a.m. at the church with a service at 10:30. Interment will follow at Glen Oak Cemetery in West Chicago.
