Mary I. Beemer, age 64, a longtime resident of Wheaton, died Sunday, June 10 at home, surrounded by family. She was born January 9, 1948 in Lansing, Michigan to Daniel and Elizabeth Grubb.
Mary was a Master Teacher, working all of her 36 years in Downers Grove District 58. For two of those years, she also served as Co-President of the Teachers' Association. Mary was an active member of Gary United Methodist Church in Wheaton, having taught Sunday school and having served on numerous committees. Most recently, Mary was a member of the Wheaton Kiwanis Club. Mary enjoyed reading, board games and puzzles, antique-shopping, ballroom dancing, walking any beach, travel, and lunch with girlfriends. She treasured time with family, especially the grandkids.
She is survived by her husband of 24 years, Dennis Beemer; her daughter Lauren (Brian) Forgas of Wheaton; stepson Andrew (Devon) Beemer of Weehawken, NJ; stepdaughter Shana (Jim) Miller of Babylon, NY; two grandsons, Aaron and Cole Forgas; one step-granddaughter Olivia Beemer; two step-grandsons Kai and Lucas Miller; her mother, Irene Elizabeth Grubb of McLean, Va.; sister Judith Wrend (Joanne Harrison) of Morrisville, Vt.; sister Eleanor Pinkert (Michael) of McLean, Va.; and many nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, June 13 from 4-8 pm at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St. in Wheaton. A memorial service will be Thursday June 14, at 10 am at Gary United Methodist Church, across the street from the Funeral Home. Interment is private.
