Martha Wallis O'Melia (Marty), age 87, daughter of the late Charles and Elizabeth Wallis and a resident of Wheaton, Illinois passed away peacefully November 25, 2011. She was born in Philadelphia, PA on December 22, 1923.

Marty graduated from Troy High School in Troy, NY and from Russell Sage College in 1945 with a degree in Home Economics. Marty was a caring and devoted mother whose family brought her great joy. Her career began as as a therapeutic dietitian in hospitals in both Albany, NY and Cleveland, OH. She had a second career as a library assistant at The Ohio State University and Terrel Jr High School of Scotch Plains, NJ. Marty was very active in the Presbyterian Church wherever she lived. Most recently, she was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Wheaton since 1981 where she served as a Deacon as well as on many committees.

She is survived by her sister, Janet Loveland of Westerly, RI and preceded in death by her brother, Calvin Wallis. She was preceded in death by her husband, John C. O'Melia to whom she was married while he was in the service during WW II. They were married for 66 years. They had three daughters, Carol Rooney of Wheaton, IL, Janet van Roden of Bryn Mawr, PA and Anne O'Melia-Moore of Columbus, OH. She is survived by eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

She loved to attend the theater, visit museums, and travel throughout the world, but her greatest enjoyment and passion was loving and caring for her family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Wheaton, IL.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 5th, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Wheaton, 715 N. Carlton Ave. in Wheaton, IL. Interment is private.
