Martha D. Schreck, 91, known to many as "Marty", passed away peacefully on March 14, 2018 at Sunrise Senior Living in Naperville, IL. She was born in 1926 in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late General James Warren Davenport and the late Lois McGuffie Davenport.
She was a 1944 graduate of Sayre High School in Pennsylvania and pursued additional studies with the Institute of Financial Education and the US League of Savings Institutions. She retired in 1987 from the Citizens Savings & Loan and again in 2011 from the Law Firm of Landy & Landy.
She was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Sayre Public Library for 33 years during which she served as secretary, treasurer and president. She served on the board of Habitat for Humanity and as treasurer of the local charity, Chow for Children.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Sayre serving as an elder on their governing board and in later years as their treasurer. She moved to Illinois in December of 2014 and has since been a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Batavia, IL.
She is survived by her brother, Warren Davenport of Wysox, PA, daughter, Martha Kretzschmar of Wheaton, IL, three granddaughters: Sarah Hamel of Colorado Springs, CO, Ellen Kohlmeir of Aurora, IL, Erin Rains of Billings, MT and seven great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Paul Schreck, her son Reid Schreck and brothers James and Robert Davenport.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, April 7, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at
Immanuel Lutheran Church
, 950 Hart Road in Batavia, IL, where a memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Additional services will be held in Waverly, NY. Interment will be held at Tioga Point Cemetery in Athens, PA.
