Martha D. Chavelas, age 81, a resident of Glendale Heights, IL, passed away on Saturday, February 14, 2026. She was born June 29, 1944, in Mexico to Enrique Chavelas & Esperanza Renteria.

She was a devoted mother of nine children, whose life was defined by strength, sacrifice, and unconditional love. A hardworking woman from a young age, she owned and operated a small shop in Mexico, which helped provide for and sustain her family. As a single mother for much of her life, she carried the responsibilities of both parents with grace and determination, always putting her children first.

Later in life, she moved to the United States, where her strong work ethic continued. Even after years of labor and sacrifice, her greatest joy remained caring for others. She lovingly babysat her grandchildren and many other children who came to know her as "Grandma", embracing each one with warmth and tenderness.

She was a deeply devoted Catholic who prayed daily and found strength in her faith. Her devotion to God guided her life and gave her comfort through every challenge. She leaves behind a legacy of resilience, faith, and unwavering love that will live on through her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all who were blessed to know her.

She is survived by her loving children, Eduardo, Enrique, Martha, Magdalena, Alberto, Antonio, and Ijinio Leyva-Chavelas; 30 cherished grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren who were the joy of her life.

She was preceded in death by her children, Natividad and Oscar, as well as her beloved husband, Enrique.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 7:00 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 565 Randy Road, Carol Stream, IL 60188.
