Marlene grew up in Southern Illinois. She moved to Chicago as a teenager. She met Charles Vittitow at the Chicago Theater, where it was love at first sight. After he returned from the Navy, where he served on a submarine in Japan, they were married in Rotan, Texas on April 30, 1958.
They lived in Chicago where he worked his entire career for Sears and she was a homemaker, raising three children. She was called upon to sew all the costumes for school plays and Halloween since she sewed quite well, making most of her daughter's school clothes.Marlene loved the Lord with every fiber of her being, witnessing in a gentle way to everyone she met.

She was an amazing decorator and made all of her own curtains and drapes. They enjoyed attending auctions which added much to her decorating skills with antiques in every room.
