Obituary

Marlene Ruth Comfield went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 24. She was born in Erie, Pennsylvania on December 17, 1953 to Robert James Comfield and Ruth Andreasen Comfield.

Her youth was spent in Erie, PA; Levittown, PA; Mt. Vernon, NY; and Elk Grove Village, IL before moving with her family to Canada where she lived in the Toronto area until high school graduation. She played goalie for her high school field hockey team.

Marlene moved with her parents to Briar Cliff Manor, NY where she passed a test with flying colors to become an overseas telephone operator for AT&T in White Plains, NY. She was transferred to Massachusetts and later to Alpharetta, GA. In addition to her work there, she was actively involved in a CMA church plant. After holding many positions at AT&T, her job evolved to working with computer systems. She retired after 30 productive years and remained in Georgia where she enjoyed her loving church family and singing alto in the choir. When health concerns brought her closer to family in Illinois, she lived with her mother before moving to a supportive living facility where she has happily lived for the past 13 years.

Marlene enjoyed crocheting, doing puzzles, playing competitive games, and giving gifts. She enjoyed Nintendo Wii Bowling and talking with her friends. In fact, she has awards for both. She had a fantastic smile and always had a silly joke ready. Throughout the years, she has amazed the family with her phenomenal memory of people, places, and things.

Though she struggled with health issues, Marlene never complained. While surrounded by family reading scripture and listening to hymns, the Lord welcomed her home.

She is survived by her mother, Ruth, sisters Janice (Murray) Edmund and Lorraine (Carl) Amodio, seven nieces and nephews, and 13 great-nieces and great-nephews for whom she crocheted many baby blankets.

She is preceded in death by her father, Robert.
